Christmas is coming and it's time to wrap up and look good with these tips: 1. DIY fashion Winter is a fantastic season for DIY fashion. Try customising last year's plain knitted beanie with costume jewellery from a charity shop, add cute wooly pompoms to an old sweater, or get those knitting needles out and whip up a scarf. 2. DIY fashion gifts for Christmas Scarves never date and are easy to knit with chunky wool and big needles. Add studs or oversized gems to plain woollen gloves or mittens. Personalised beanies using fabric paints or beanies are another cute gift. 3. On trend colours Earth tones will be huge - try tones of rust and olive with copper accessories. Deep teal, dark chocolate brown and earthy taupe look great together. Scarlet and jewel tones add drama to your look, while Paris fashion week was all about the pink cape dress. 4. DIY styling Channel Miu Miu and add DIY crystal embellishments to chunk heeled courts and fine dernier tights. Add an embroidered rose embellishment to a V neck sweater for Gucci style, or follow Isabelle Marant's lead and wrap a thick leather belt round the waist of a chunky arran knit. 5. Dress well, look good Invest in a classic, capsule wardrobe for winter - a good sweater, jeans, a blazer, winter coat, blouse and long sleeved dress, then add a piece of sports luxe or something in a bold, graphic print to bring it up to date. 6. New looks for old - accessorise This keys into the capsule wardrobe - put together as many looks as you can, then use clever accessorising and styling to create new looks. Leather over lace, tennis shoes and your old trench always look stylish. 7. Matching colours and nail art Pale and natural nails are still a big trend as are dark, goth nails - these new neutrals go with anything. Silver nails will be huge again and so will glitter - perfect for parties. Strong graphic straight lines look great with a pared down winter wardrobe. 8. Stripes are right Those striped nails will look perfect with winter's hot trend for big bold stripes - a chunky striped home knit scarf is the quickest way to update to this trend. 9. The '80s are back Remember power dressing with big shoulder pads and plenty of glitter? It's back and oh-so-easy to DIY. 10. Invest in cashmere If you only buy one sweater, make it cashmere for warmth without bulk.
